How Much Is Enough

How Much Is Enough How much is enough? Without asking this question, we blindly pursue excess. We have been acculturated to act rapaciously. Acquire, consume, indulge. More, more, more. How much is enough? Without an answer, we dont know how to proceed. Because we dont know when to stop. Mindless desire takes us by the hand. Of course, enough is different for each of us. Enough changes as our needs and circumstances change. Your enough may include a sofa, coffee table, and TV. A dining table that seats six. A three-bedroom home. A two-car garage. A backyard trampoline. Or that might be too much. Enough changes over time. Yesterdays enough may be too much today. How much is enough? Less than enough is depriving. More than enough is indulging. Enough is the sweet spot in the middle, the place where intentionality intersects with contentment, where lust doesnt get in the way of creating something meaningful. The Minimalists recently found our enough. We set a limit on our private podcast audience. Because 6,000 people is enough. Its our minimum viable audience. Its enough because we want to keep our private podcast private. A small audience allows us to test new ideas in an intimate setting, to discuss sensitive subjects and have difficult conversations without ridicule, judgment, or misunderstanding. Its enough to pay for our studio space and equipment. Enough to pay a producer, filmmaker, and social-media manager. Enough to pay ourselves without cluttering our podcast with ads. My Favorite Qubcois Canadian French Expressions

As Quebec French language is very rich and full of nuances, it is difficult to choose a few representative phrases. Nevertheless, after much debate, this is my top list. These expressions are difficult to translate, so make sure you read the example to really get the meaning. I also added the French from France equivalent whenever I could. Enjoy! Michel is French and Canadian. He lives in the gorgeous island of Belle-Isle in Brittany where he offers  French immersion. He also taught at McGill in Montreal where he also spends a few months each year. 1 -  Avoir de la misà ¨reJ’ai ben d’la misà ¨re à   jouer au tennisLiteral translation: I have a lot of misery playing tennisIt means: I’ve got difficulty playing tennis.â€Å"Ben† comes from bien and means â€Å"beaucoup†, a lot of.In â€Å"franà §ais de France†, one would say : j’ai du mal à   jouer au tennis. 2 -  Avoir son voyageJ’ai mon voyage! Literal translation: I’ve got my trip, I have traveled.It indicates that you are surprised, or that you are fed up.In franà §ais de France, one would say : à §a alors! (to indicate surprise) Or j’en ai marre ! (to say youre fed up). 3 -  Le boss des bà ©cossesIl se prend pour le boss des bà ©cosses. Literal translation: he thinks he is the toilets boss.One would say that about someone who wants to lead a group of people who do not want any leader. Les bà ©cosses, a familiar feminine plural word, comes from the English word back-house and means toilets. 4 - C’est l’fonne!C’est ben l’fonne It’s really fun. See the Quà ©bà ©cois transformation of the English word fun into fonne, the word that doesnt exist at all in French from France. Note however that Canadian use both spellings, fun (more common) or fonne.The opposite phrase would be: c’est platte. It literally means it is flat (from the literal translation plat, but put in a Quà ©bà ©cois way...) but really means it is dull. Lies/Hypocrisy (Scene 1) When Stanley first meets Blanche, she says that she has not drunk any of his liquor, but we think Stanley is quite suspicious. Marlow Essays - Joseph Conrad, Congo Free State, Heart Of Darkness Marlow Marlows Catharsis in Heart of Darkness Conrad's novel, Heart of Darkness, relies on the historical period of imperialism to illuminate its protagonist, Charlie Marlow, and his struggle with two opposite value systems. Marlow undergoes a catharsis during his trip to the Congo and learns of the effects of imperialism. I will analyze Marlow's change, which is caused by his exposure to the imperialistic nature of the historical period in which he lived. Marlow goes to the Congo River to report on Mr. Kurtz, a valuable officer, to their employer. When he sets sail, he does not know what to expect. When his journey is complete, his experiences have changed him forever. Heart of Darkness is a story of one man's journey through the African Congo and the enlightenment of his soul. Marlow begins his voyage as an ordinary English sailor who is traveling to the African Congo to work. He is an Englishmen through and through. He has never been exposed to any culture similar to the one he will enco unter in Africa, and he has no idea about the drastically different culture that exists there. Throughout the book, Conrad, via Marlow's observations, reveals to the reader the naive mentality of Europeans. Marlow also shares this naivet in the beginning of his voyage. However, after his first few moments in the Congo, he realizes the ignorance he and all his comrades possess. We first recognize the general naivet of the Europeans when Marlow's aunt sees him for the last time before he embarks on his journey. She assumes that the voyage is a mission of weaning those ignorant millions from their horrid ways [. . .] (line 16). In reality, however, the Europeans are there in the name of imperialism and their sole objective is to earn a substantial profit by collecting all the ivory in Africa. The reader can also see the Europeans obliviousness of reality when Marlow is recounting his adventure aboard the Nellie. He addresses his comrades: When you have to attend to things of that sort, to the mere incidents of the surface, the realitythe reality I tell you-fades. The inner truth is hidden luckily, luckily. But I felt it all the same; I felt often its mysterious stillness watching over me at my monkey tricks, just as it watches you fellows performing on your respective tight ropes for-what is it? half a crown a tumble . . . . (36) While he is in the Congo, although he has to concentrate on the petty everyday things like overseeing the repair of his boat, he is still aware of what is going on around him and of the horrible reality he is in. On the other hand, his friends on the boat simply do not recognize this reality. It is their ignorance and innocence which provokes them to tell Marlow to try to be civil (36). Not only are they oblivious to the reality that Marlow sees, but their naivet is so great that they can not even comprehend such a thing (Johnson 356). Quite surprisingly, this mentality does not pertain exclusively to the Englishmen in Europe. At one poi nt during Marlow's voyage down the Congo, he wakes to find his boat in an enormous patch of fog. At that very instant, a very loud cry is let out (41). After Marlow looks around and makes sure everything is all right, he observes the contrasts of the whites and the blacks expressions: It was very curious to see the contrast of expression of the white men and of the black fellows of our crew, who were as much strangers to that part of the river as we, though their homes were only eight hundred miles away. The whites, of course greatly discomposed, had besides a curious look of being painfully shocked by such an outrageous row. As my organization is related to the human healthcare and services, I would plan to promote the culture of my organization on the basis of good health care of our clients. The employees of the organization would share the beliefs and values of each other along with that of organization. The culture of the organization would be based on some factors such as innovation and risk taking, attention to detail, outcome orientation, people orientation, team orientation, aggressiveness, stability, etc. (Prasad, 2008). In order to develop ethical culture, I would develop an understanding among all the staff members about the fact that union is strength. If we will work together, we will definitely achieve the goals of the organization. The culture of the organization would institutionalize the values of the organization because it regularly encourages the staff member to follow the values, beliefs and mission of the organization for the clients. By this way, it would be possible for us to provide the best health service within the low cost structure to the patients. Leadership Leadership is the process of influencing the behavior of others to work willingly and enthusiastically for achieving predetermined goals. At the post of the leader, a person is largely responsible for the culture of the organization. In some organizations, managers assume that they are not a leader, but as they are managers, the employees of the organization ultimately follow their behavior. Leadership is an important factor for making any type of organization successful. Without a good leader and leadership process, a manager cannot function effectively and efficiently (Gupta, 2007). My way of leadership is based on the participative style. In this style, I take decisions after consulting with my followers and after their participation in the decision-making process. I involve my group members in the decisions on the feasibility and workability of an idea. I believe that their co-operation in the attainment of organizational goals can be enlisted only if they are committed to the organization, and that commitment can be ensured only by an honest and open communication of ideas with them and by the development of a team spirit. I encourage my subordinates to function as a social unit, and make full use of their talents and abilities. I encourage subordinates to exercise high degrees of responsibility and freedom. They use as little authoritarian control as possible and are concerned with group relationship as well as getting the job done. They do not delegate their right to make final decisions and to give specific directives to their subordinates, but to seek the ir thoughts and opinions on many decisions that affect them. By this way, I cultivate the decision-making abilities of my subordinates and encourage them to increase their abilities to exercise self-control and urge them to assume greater responsibility for guiding their own efforts (Prasad, 2008). This style is very useful in many ways. When workers feel that their ideas are important and are being made use of, they feel considerably committed to change in which they have participated. Workers also develop a greater feeling of self-esteem. They maximize their potential in creative and productive ways and experience personal satisfaction and accomplishment of their tasks. Further, when most people are given a little freedom, they develop and grow in personality and job competence. Often they will take on more responsibilities than their job descriptions call for because of the pleasure they take in their work. I adopt a helpful attitude toward my subordinates. In this leadership style, I delegate as much responsibility to the members of the work team as their experience and knowledge will permit. I place emphasis on results rather than on an action. My philosophy is: â€Å"It is not always how a job gets done that is important but that the job does get done.† I show my concern towards the employees and thereby gain their respect. The role communication is very much important in establishing my leadership style. Without proper communication, the decisions cannot be made and delegated effectively. Effective communication creates workable understanding and agreement between two persons. I believe that full co-operation from the subordinates can only be achieved when there is clarity in communication. Proper and effective communication helps in building a trust worthy relationship between the leader and the subordinates. Effective leadership communication can be accomplished only when it has credibility. If I want to become a good leader, it is essential for me to be a good listener. By this way, I not only give chance to my subordinates to speak but also gather useful information for further communication. If the communication between my subordinates and me is not effective, I will not be able to guide and motivate them properly so as to accomplish the organizational goals. I will give incentives and bonus to th e employees on the basis of their performances. As a leader, it is my moral responsibility to follow the ethics and check the behavior of followers and culture of organization and make sure that everything is going right according to the ethics of the organization. As a leader, it is very essential for me to adopt the code of ethics, so that my followers will do the same. Oversight In order to maintain the ethical standard and evaluate the performance of the employees, I will conduct a periodical performance evaluation program. This would include weakly evaluation, monthly evaluation and yearly evaluation. On the basis of this evaluation, the employees would also get the appraisal and other compensation and benefits in the organization. I will conduct one on one interview with my staff in which I will discuss about the performance, strength, weaknesses and opportunity areas of the staff member and also provide suggestion, ideas and opinions to improve their performance. I will also give the grades or marks to the employees according to their performance and maintain a chart, which would help me to analyze the performance and improvement area of the employee. In place of oversight, I will put the system of ethical counseling board. They will give an opinion to me and my staff member in the circumstance when the ethics would not be followed. In order to handle th e other business issues like fund raising increases and decreases in the resources, there will a committee of board of directors in my organization (Kettner, 2002). Conclusion From the study, it can be concluded that the mission, vision and code of ethics form the core for an organization. These serve as the guiding tool for the employees and help them in providing direction in order to satisfy their clients in best possible manner. Personal Branding Plan Paper Essay

I have over ten years of cleaning experience from starting out as a dishwasher to cleaning in hospitals, hotels, and residential buildings. From those experiences I have found I enjoy interacting with people and making their stay, where ever that might be, more enjoyable. Yes, it can make finding new jobs, outside the cleaning industry, more difficult; however, I’m always up for a new challenge. I do not intend to stay in the cleaning industry forever. I would rather work in an industry that specializes in helping make memories for people and their families. Working in hospitals, hotels, and restaurants I have developed an understanding of what people expect out of their stays. Especially when they are usually spending a large amount of money, people want to feel special, important, and recognized. I want to be a part of all of that. To be honest, I have never thought about the companies I would like to work for until this week. Knowing that I want to be able to interact with people the three companies I would enjoy working for would be Xanterra Parks & Resorts, the Carnival Cruise line or InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). Each of these companies is about making an enjoyable experience for people that stay with them and for employees to making memories along the way. If you want to make a living working in the ten largest National Parks in North America, Xanterra Parks & Resorts is the place to do it. This is one of the ultimate ways to help people make memories. When it comes to working for this company, there are two destinations I would like to work Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Although most of the positions provided by this company are seasonal the benefits provided are amazing. Employees can receive â€Å"full health care, dental, eye, disability and life insurance as well as vacation pay and a 401K program† the only requirement is to work two consecutive seasons at any park operated by Xanterra Parks & Resort (Glacier Jobs, 2014). This company is in the hospitality industry just as Carnival Cruise line and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). Carnival provides jobs either  on land or at sea. According to â€Å"Carnival† (2014), For over 40 years, Carnival has strived to provide a comfortable, â€Å"Fun† working environment for its employees and has created a number of forward-thinking programs that offer unique opportunities for professional and personal growth† (para. 1). Working on a cruise ship, I would have the opportunity to work behind the scenes of how the guests enjoy their experience; whether it is in guest services or housekeeping. Each job is just as important when creating guest satisfaction. InterContinental Hotels Group– If you have ever stayed at the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, or Candlewood Suites, then you have stayed under the IHG brands. I have had the opportunity to work for one of the IHG brands and have learned the inside and outsides of how a hotel should be operated. The time and effort put into creating guest satisfaction is endless, and it takes the entire group of employees to make it successful. A guest’s ultimate experience depends entirely on the hotel staff. IHG is all about making that experience the best one. It is also about allowing its employees to grow. At IHG no matter what brand you are under the â€Å"manager will work with you to create a personal development plan that helps you develop your capabilities and build the skills and experiences you need for the future† (IHG, 2014). Unless you have experience managing in hospitality the best way to go up the ladder is to start at the bottom. The best method to contact any of these companies is to apply either in person or online. Another method would be to call where you want to work and get to know the people in human resource. By asking as many questions as you can about the company and inserting yourself as much as possible will allow those who influence the hiring decision get to know you and how interested you are about their company. These three companies provide experience in interacting with people, helping make memories, and the opportunity to grow as a person. It just comes down to deciding which one would be a better fit. A Lexical Pragmatic Analysis of Proverbs in Femi...

This essay is a pragmatic reading of moral and socio-political decadence in Femi Osofisan’s Midnight Hotel. It does this by analyzing ten out of twenty-five proverbs deployed in the text. In analyzing the proverbs, this essay observes that each has at least an ad hoc constituent which requires semantic modulation to get at the meanings of the proverbs. This modulation is not arbitrary, but contextually negotiated until the reader reaches his optimal relevance. Wilson and Carston argue that metaphors are cases of ad hoc constructions (7), for instance, when a speaker says, ‘The boy is a lion’.
